Abstract

The nature of dermatophytes is to invade keratin-rich tissues like hair, skin and nails. Results of these dermatophytic infections show dermal inflammatory responses that include itching, redness in epidermal cells and yellow to red lesions. This current study aimed to determine the occurrence, distribution and incidence of dermatophytoses from patients of Sawai Maan Singh Hospital, Jaipur in Rajasthan state. A total of 52 samples were collected from OPD, Department of Dermatology, SMS Hospital, Jaipur from April 2022 to September 2022. Out of 52 samples, 46 were found KOH-positive and 44 were verified by culture-positive characteristics. In this current study, Trichophyton mentagrophytes (22.72%) was the most predominant etiological agent followed by T. terrestre (13.63%) and T. simii (11.36%). Tinea cruris was a very common clinical manifestation in all age groups as well as in the categories of different patients, the reason being moisture gets trapped between the scrotum and thigh which makes a favourable condition for it. Other significant factors like lack of awareness, wetting, fluctuating temperature conditions and unhygienic habits also contribute to the cause of Tinea.
