Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical value of the levels of serum cystatin C (CysC) and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c)protein in diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) patients with early renal injury. Methods According to the renal function indice (including creatinine and blood urea nitrogen),80 patients with T2DM were divided into two groups:the normal renal function group (n =40),the abnormal renal function group (n =40).Another 40 health people served as the control group. The levels of serum CysC and HbA1c were examined. Results The levels of serum CysC and HbA1c in patients with T2DM were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05 ),while the levels of serum CysC and HbA1c in abnormal renal function group was significantly higher than those in the normal renal function group (P < 0.05 ).The level of serum CysC was positively correlated with the level of HbA1c (r =0.39)in patients with T2DM.Conclusions CysC and HbA1c may be used as sensitive indexes for diagnosing early renal injury in type 2 diabetes mellitus.Combined examination can have more practical value. Key words: Glycosylated hemoglobin A1c; Cystatin C; Diabetes mellitus; Renal injury; Complications
