Abstract

In recent years, the ethical review of clinical trials has been formally established in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is supported by a system of legislation and regulations at a local and national level. An example of a local ethics committee working within this system is the committee established at the National Research Center of Mother and Child Health in Astana, a centre which has recently been set up to provide advanced healthcare services for women and children on a national level. This paper outlines the role of the ethics committee in clinical trials, and specifically the committee at the National Research Center of Mother and Child Health in Astana.
