Abstract

Objective To determine the effect of using by partition infiltration on corneal epithelial flap during laser assisted subepithelial keratomileusis (LASEK).Methods Ninety-eight patients (196 eyes) with moderate to high myopia were enrolled in the study. The left eye was in experimental group using 20% alcohol by partition infiltration method and the right eye using standard method as control group. The integrity of corneal epithelial flap during the surgery, postoperative irritation and corneal epithelial flap healing, corneal haze incidence were compared. Results The integrated corneal epithelial flap was in 93 eyes in experimental group and 89 eyes in control group, there was no significant difference in the two groups (u=1.28,P >0.05).There was less irritation in experimental group compared with the control group (u=8.767,P <0.01).Smoothness and transparency of the corneal epithelial flap in the postoperative were better than the control group (u=5.318,P < 0.01).The haze was less in experimental group. The haze score zero in the two group were in 89 and 78 respectively (u=2.245,P <0.05).Conclusions Partition infiltration method in LASEK can reduce the postoperative pain and corneal haze.It is a simple method and easy to learn. Key words: Partition infiltration; Corneal epithelial flap; LASEK
