Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of intravitreal injection with small dose of triamcinolone acetonide for diabetic macular edema. Methods Fifty-four eyes of 46 patients with diabetic macular edema were collected. Triamcinolone acetonide(2 mg) was injected into vitreous in all patients. Change of the visual acuity, intraocular pressure, lens, fundus, macular retinal thickness, OCT and FFA of all the patients were observed on 1 week, 1, 3, 6 and 12 month after the treatment. The follow-up time was 12 months. Results The visual acuities were improved in varying degrees after intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide. No serious complications were found. Conclusion Intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide for diabetic macular edema has a good effect in a short term, but long-term effect and complications require further studies.
