Abstract

Objective To investigate the application of improved small incision nonphacoemulsification cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation in senile cataract with hard nucleus. Methods 207 eyes of 163 cases of senile cataract underwent small incision nonphacoemulsification or phacoemulsification cataract extraction combined with intraocular lens implantation and the patients were followed up for 12 months.Based on the different procedures, the patients were divided into two groups:small incision nonphacoemulsification group (104 eyes of 82 cases) and phacoemulsification group (103 eyes of 81 cases). The time of surgery, the change of density and loss rate in corneal endothelial cells, and the vision of patients of the two groups were compared. Results The difference of operation time of two groups had no statistical significance(P > 0.05).The changes of density and loss rate in corneal endothelial cells and the vision of patients in two groups were statistically significantly different (P < 0.05).Conclusion Small incision nonphacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation is a safe and effective surgical treatment for hard nucleus cataract.
