Abstract

In order to clarify the clinical significance of serum immunosuppressive acidic protein (LAP) value, as an index expressing the host factor, in the treatment of gastric cancer, the correlations between preoperative IAP or its changes before and after surgery and therapeutic results were studied. 1) Therapeutic results were good in patients group whose preoperative serum IAP was negative. 2) Of curative resection cases, favorable therapeutic results could be achieved in IAP-negative cases. 3) Regardless of the clinical stage, curative resection cases with negative IAP had a favorable therapeutic result. 4) Extremely poor therapeutic result was noted in patients whose preoperative LAP was positive, with negative PPD skin reaction. 5) Therapeutic result was good for patients whose pre and postoperative IAPs were negative, while it was poor in those whose both LAPs were positive. 6) It is concluded that the serum IAP value particularly mirrors the therapeutic result in curatively resected patients with gastric cancer, and can be a very valuable index expressing the host factor.
