Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between Braf gene expression and papillary thyroid microcarcinoma(PTMC) prognosis, through studying different variants PTMC Braf gene expression and the difference on lymph node as well as extrathyroidal invasion. Methods From March 2005 to April 2015, 1 500 cases of PTMC patients were retrospectively analyzed. Retested PTMC Braf gene expression through immunohistochemistry. Divided the cases into Braf gene mutational positive (1 042 cases)and Braf gene mutational negative (458 cases)according to the result. The situation of lymph node and extrathyroidal invasion was analyzed. Results The rate of lymph node invasion as well as extrathyroidal invasion of positive group was 90.5%(943/1 042). The rate of negative group was 26.6%(122/458), P<0.05. Further analysis showed the rate of Braf gene mutation from tall cell variant, columnar cell variant and oncocytic variant cells was 91.7%(880/960), while other variants were 30.0%(162/540), P<0.05. Conclusions Braf gene expression has predictive significance in the prognosis of PTMC. There is difference among different variants PTMC when expressing Braf gene mutation, which indicates different prognosis among different variants. Key words: Braf gene; Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma; Prognosis
