Clinical research on treatment of children with severe pneumonia by nasal continuous positive airway pressure combined with Budesonide

Abstract

Objective To explore clinical effect of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP)combined with budesonide for treatment of children with severe pneumonia.Methods A total of eighty cases of 1-5-year-old children with severe pneumonia who were treated in our hospital from January 2011 to March 2013 were enrolled in this study.They were randomly divided into control group (36 cases) and treatment group (44 cases).The control group received routine treatment including anti-infection therapy,sputum aspiration,and oxygen atomization.In the treatment group,the children were provided with NCPAP combined with budesonide on the basis of the conventional treatment.The respiratory frequency and the changes of arterial blood gas before and after the treatment were observed and compared.Results The respiratory frequency and the changes of arterial blood gas in the treatment group were improved more significantly than those in the control group after treatment (P ＜ 0.05).The treatment group was significantly better than the control group in the diminution of pulmonary rales,return of arterial blood gas,and reducing the average length of stay(P ＜ 0.01).Conclusion NCPAP is effective in treating respiratory failure in children with severe pneumonia,and it can also reduce the application of intubation and mechanical ventilation.
