Abstract
Next day, the psychiatrist enters the waiting room and greets Matthew and his parents. Matthew is a slight, redheaded, freckled boy of average stature for his 9 years. He willingly enters the psychiatrist's office and sits in a comfortable chair. Though quiet at the beginning of the interview, he gradually becomes more animated as he entertains the psychiatrist with imaginative stories. He is verbally fluent and has a good vocabulary, using such phrases as “I feel threatened.” He is aware that he has emotional problems but not how they originated.
