Abstract

Clinical pharmacy is non‐existent in nearly all Indian hospitals and pharmacists are under‐utilised in the Indian healthcare system. A recent joint Indo‐Australian program of cooperation established clinical pharmacy practice and education at two South Indian pharmacy colleges and hospitals. These programs will act as model sites for similar programs at other colleges and hospitals in India. This report describes the introduction of clinical pharmacy practice and education at a large private teaching hospital and a smaller government district hospital. Based on this experience the future of clinical pharmacy in India appears promising.
