Abstract
The Clinical Pathology for Athletic Trainers: Recognizing Systemic Disease text is written for athletic training students and as a resource for athletic trainers. This text is useful for entrylevel athletic training students enrolled in a pharmacology or general medical course. The writing style is reader friendly and appropriately informative. This second edition includes new chapters on pharmacology; eye, ear, nose, throat, and mouth disorders; and dermatological conditions. The text is organized into 15 chapters and appendices, including normal laboratory values and a glossary. The first 3 chapters are Principles of Clini cal Pathology and Decision Making, Pathophysiology, and Pharmacology, respectively. The Principles of Clinical Pathology and Decision Making chapter introduces basic medical history and physical examination techniques. Much of the chapter is a review for those students who have already had an orthopedic evaluation course. More specific general medical skills, such as auscultation, palpation, and use of a peak flow meter, ophthal moscope, and otoscope, are discussed in the chapters that correspond to the system being evaluated.
