Abstract

Uterine tandem with ovoids is the most common brachytherapy system used to treat locally advanced cervical cancer. For patients with extension to the distal third of the vagina or with obliteration of the vaginal fornices, a tandem and cylinder (T&C) applicator may be utilized, albeit with less ideal geometry and the potential for increased rectal and bladder toxicity. We reviewed our institutional experience in a series of cervical cancer patients treated with tandem and cylinder applicators, and compared outcomes to historical standards.
