Abstract

Tibial fractures have a bimodal distribution with low energy spiral pattern being more common in patients over 50 years of age and high energy transverse and comminuted being more common in patients under 30 years of age. This was a prospective study included patients with tibial shaft fractures treated with intramedullary nailing through suprapatellar approach in semi extended position of knee in 20 patients at Our Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. In our study out of 16 patients, 10 patients had grade 2 compound fractures (62.5%), the remaining 6 patients had grade 1 compound fracture (37.5%).
