Clinical observation on the effects of hyperbaric oxygen combined with Huatan Quyu decoction in the treatment of 126 cases of acute cerebral infarction

Abstract

Objective To explore the therapeutic effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) combined with Huatan Quyu decoction (HTQYD) on acute cerebral infarction.Methods In accordance with different treatment methods,126 patients with acute cerebral infarction were divided into 3 groups.The control group (40 cases) received routine treatment,the Chinese herbal medicine group (42 cases) received routine treatment plus HTQYD.The comprehensive HBO and combined treatment group (44 cases) was given HBO therapy plus HTQYD,for a succession of 10 days.Neurofunctional deficiency scores (NDS),traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores of the patients in all the groups were determined before and after treatment.At the same time,levels of tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA),plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI) and homocysteine (HCY) in the plasma were detected before and after treatment.Results TCM syndrome scores both in the Chinese herbal medicine grouo and the comprehensive HBO and conhined treatment group all improved significantly,when compared with those before treatment (P ＜ 0.01).No statistical significance could be noted in the FENG syndromes,when comparisons were made between the data obtained before and after treatment(P ＞0.05).However,statistical significance could be seen in the TAN and YU syndromes(P ＜ 0.01 、P ＜ 0.05).Significant improvement in the neurofunctional deficiency scores could be observed in all the 3 groups following treatment,(P ＜ 0.01).The comprehensive HBO and combined treatment group was obviously superior to the control group (P ＜ 0.05),nevertheless,no statistical significance could be seen,when comparisons were made between the groups (P ＞ 0.05).For the patients in the Chinese herbal medicine group and the comprehensive HBO and combined treatment group,plasma t-PA [(3.03 ±2.15)mg/L,(13.86±1.37)mg/L],PAI [(23.64 ±9.07)mg/L,(23.02 ±5.25)mg/L] and HCY [(10.13 ± 1.15) umol/L,(10.01 ± 1.15) μmol/L] all improved significantly after treatment (P ＜ 0.05或 ＜ 0.01),with the data of PAI and HCY being obviously superior to those of the control group(P ＜ 0.05).For the patients in the comprehensive HBO and combined treatment group,PAI data decreased more significantly with statistical significance,when compared with those of the Chinese herbal medicine group(P ＜0.05).Linear regression analysis in the data of 126 patients indicated that the TAN changes obtained both before treatment and after treatment were positively correlated with the changes of plasma PAI both before treatment and after treatment (r =0.781,P =0.01).Conclusions HBO combined with Huatan Quyu decoction could elevate the level of t-PA,decreaselevels of PAI and HCY and significantly improve neurofunctional deficiency of the patients with acute cerebral infarction.Improvement of the TAN syndromes was of great importance to the decreased level of plasma PAI.
