Abstract

Objective To explore the efficacy of reinforcement nursing on bone mineral density (BMD) and bone metabolism in patients with postmenopansal osteoporosis (PMO). Methods 55 PMO patients were randomly divided into the reinforcement nursing group (n = 24) and the control group (n = 21). In the reinforcement nursing group, the patients were treated with health education and regular exercise over 12 months. The patients in the control group accepted the nursing freely scheduled by the family members. All the patients in the study took 600 mg calcium everyday. Bone mineral density at the hip, and lumbar spine and bone metabolic marker were measured at baseline and 12 months. Results After 1 year, BMD at the hip in the intervention group had a significantly greater increase compared with the control group (P < 0.05). The level of osseous formation index BGP and absorption index Upyd/Cr significantly decreased in the intervention group (P < 0.05), while no significant changes in bone metabolism were observed in the control group. Conclusions The reinforcement nursing is an effective way in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. It can effectively increase the BMD at the hip, and inhibit the bone metabolism in PMO patients, thereby being helpful to the treatment of PMO. Key words: Pnstmenopausal ostcoporosis; Rehabilitation nursing; BMD; Bone metabolic
