Abstract

Objective To evaluate the curative effect of phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation for treating angle-closure glaucoma with cataract. Methods Phacoemulsification combined with IOL implantation was performed on 26 cases (29 eyes) of angle-closure glaucoma with cataract. The intraocular pressure, anterior chamber angle, chamber depth, and change of vision between preoperation and postoperation were observed with follow-up for 6 months to 2 years. Results The intraocular pressure (IOP) after surgery was (13.32 ±4.32)mm Hg which was lower than IOP of (25.12 ±8.52)mm Hg controlled by drugs before operation. The difference had statistical significance (P < 0.05).The central anterior chamber depth increased from (1.73 ± 0.36) mm in preopertation to (3.30 ± 0.35) mm in postoperation. The difference had statistical significance (P < 0.05).The angle broadened and vision was improved in all cases. Conclusion Phacoemulsification combined with IOL implantation can be one of the effective methods of curing angle-closure glaucoma with cataract.
