Abstract

Objective To observe the efficacy of surgery for the subconjuntival implantation cysts after the orbital prosthesis impantation. Methods Under local anesthesia and the surgical microscope, the tissue around the cyst was lifted by microscopic forceys and the conjunctiva was cut horizontally to separate and fully expose the cysts. Then the cyst was removed. The separation of cysts should be careful to avoid the perforation of the capsule wall which might cause residual cyst recurrence. Results There were 32 eyes of 32 cases of epithelial implantation cyst and the cyst was nearly circular, oval or nodular, translucent and soft texture with intact capsule wall .The pathological diagnosis was dermoid cyst with serous capsule contents and keratinized tisue. There was no recurrence among the 32cases.The prosthetic eye was placed three months later and the eye symmetry was good. Conclusion Surgery is the only effective treatment for epithelial implantation cysts. The removal of epithelial implantation cysts after prosthesis implantation, was safe and reliable with less damage and no recurrence.
