Abstract

Objective To develop clinical nursing instructor competence inventory and test its validity and reliability so as to provide a scientific and objective tool for evaluating instructors' competence and improve their performance on the basis of the students' evaluation.Methods Every item of the inventory was identified with literature review semi-structured interview and survey procedure,and their validity and reliability were tested.A total of 152 nursing students were surveyed in this study.Results 27 items with 5 main factors were identified in the inventory.Cronbach'sα of the overall inventory is 0.929 ; that of its factors ranges from 0.880 to 0.941.The overall inventory has a split-half reliability of 0.902 ; that of its factors ranges from 0.770 to 0.921.Criterion-related validity is 0.789 and content validity is 0.833 ( P < 0.01 ).Conclusions Clinical nursing instructor competence inventory has good internal consistency reliability,content validity and construct validity; therefore it could serve as an objective tool for assessing clinical instructors' competence.
