Abstract

This paper is the result of a decade of experience in medical software and medical information systems design and use in Belgrade health institutions. This is one of the basic activities of Belgrade University Centre for Multldisciplinary Studies since development of medical software usually requires multidisciplinary team work. Different kinds of clinical computer information systems (CIS) are described. A brief survey of clinical CIS development preparatory activities, such as project definition, team members nomination and their preliminary instructing are presented. The problems which CIS designer faces during software development also found place in this paper. The first problem during CIS development is how to present advantages and limitations of automatic data processing to medical personnel as direct users of medical CIS. The complexity of medical practice and differences in organisation of work in different institutions is another problem. Some practical advices in CIS planning are also mentioned in this paper.
