Hystricomorphes raised in captivity frequently develop a series of pathological elements centred on the genitourinary system and especially at the level of the kidneys, in many cases the severity of the changes and the rapid evolution preventing therapeutic success. In order to understand the causes of this pathology and implicitly to be able to diagnose quickly and correctly, ensuring an appropriate therapy, it is important to know the eco-biology of these species and the transformations that occurred for domesticated hystricomorphes.
