Abstract

There has been increasing concern about the deteriorating quality of care available in the NHS. Successive governments have attempted to address this concern with different initiatives ranging from managerial and structural reorganizations to educational changes including the introduction of new curricula for both nurse and medical preregistration programmes. However, despite these initiatives the quality of healthcare services continues to cause concern both for consumers and politicians alike — a concern which is also readily acknowledged in the professional press in the light of the available evidence regarding resource constraints.
