Abstract
Levo-alpha acetyl methadol (LAAM) was introduced as an adjunct to treatment in the research oriented outpatient clinic of the Washington Center for Addictions in October of 1976. The focus of this paper is to discuss our experiences with this medication in the context of the general clinical atmosphere of the program. To give a comprehensive picture of our experiences, we will discuss the assumptions of our treatment model, the procedures of the LAAM project, the staff’s perception of the impact of LAAM, and the reports of clients after receiving LAAM for 40 weeks.
