Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical experience of tension-free hernia repair in the treatment of elderly inguinal hernia. Methods A total of 50 elderly patients with inguinal hernia admitted to Shanghai Fengxian Central Hospital from January 2017 to December 2017 were enrolled. All patients underwent tension-free hernia repair. The surgical indicators, VAS scores and complications were evaluated. Results All patients underwent surgery successfully. The operation time was (41.69±7.09) minutes, the time to activity was (17.05±6.92) hours, the length of hospital stay was (5.44±1.35) days, and the VAS score was (1.55±0.58) scores. The incidence of postoperative complications in this series was 18%, including 3 cases of scrotal hemorrhage, 2 cases of wound infection, and 4 cases of urinary retention. All patients were discharged uneventfully. Conclusion Tension-free hernia repair is effective in the treatment of elderly inguinal hernia. It is worthy of promotion.
