Abstract

In order to study the structural features of the cerebral cortex vessels a model of acute inflammation was created by intravenous administration of purified lipopolysaccharide (1 mg/kg) to white rats. Cryostat sections as well as semi and ultrathin sections of brain cortex were studied by means of light and electron microscopy. In experimental animals there was a decrease in lumen diameter of the arteries located in subarachnoid and subpial spaces, the expansion of the perivascular spaces around the cortical arterioles, signs of disturbances in blood-brain barrier integrity in the wall of microcirculation vessels.
