Abstract

Microparticles (MPs) are small procoagulant membrane vesicles that are shed from cells when they are activated or undergo apoptosis [1]. Tissue factor (TF) is a transmembrane receptor and the main initiator of the blood coagulation cascade [2]. Highly elevated MP-associated TF activity was found in the blood of cancer patients with acute venous thromboembolism (VTE) [3–7].
