Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of the buttonhole technique angle frame in establishing track, and to provide theoretical basis for the use of buttonhole technique angle frame in the buttonhole technique. Methods A total of 38 maintenance hemodialysis patients with arteriovenous fistula for vascular access were randomized to the buttonhole technique angle frame aided group (n=19) or the common manual buttonhole technique group (control group, n=19). The number of cannulations with sharp needle in the phase of track formation, the rate of successful single cannulation with dull needle in the maintenance phase, and the scores of cannulation pain assessed with Changhai pain scale were observed. Results Compared with the control group, the number of cannulation with sharp needle in the phase of track formation reduced significantly in the angle frame aided group (6.63±1.46 vs 8.42±1.80, P<0.01). Compared with the control group, there were significantly higher rates (93.71% vs 84.61%, P<0.01)of successful single cannulation with dull needle in the maintenance phase, and significantly lower scores(1.92±0.68 vs 2.49±0.66, P<0.01) of cannulation pain assessed with Changhai pain scale were observed in the angle frame aided group. Conclusions The buttonhole technique angle frame aided buttonhole technique may reduce the number of cannulation with sharp needle in the phase of track formation, increase the rate of successful single cannulation with dull needle in the maintenance phase, and reduce the pain of cannulation with dull needle. Key words: The buttonhole technique angle frame; Track; Arteriovenous fistula; Dull needle
