Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, pathological characteristics and treatment of pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (PNENs). Methods The clinical and pathological data of 35 patients with PNENs admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from February 2013 to February 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Results Among the 35 patients with PNENs, there were 22 males and 13 females, with the age of (44.2±12.2)years old, and the ratio of males to females is 1∶1.7. Most patients had no specific clinical manifestations. All patients underwent surgical treatment, including pancreaticoduodenectomy (13 cases), pancreaticocaudal resection (6 cases), intrapancreatic resection (4 cases), tumor resection (8 cases) and local resection (4 cases). The mean tumor size was (4.8± 2.4) cm, and PNENs was confirmed by postoperative pathology. Postoperative pancreatic fistula occurred in 4 patients (11.4%), hemorrhage in 1 patient (2.9%), abdominal effusion in 2 patients (5.7%), incision infection in 1 patient (2.9%) and pulmonary infection in 1 patient (2.9%), without perioperative death. Postoperative follow-up was performed in 33 cases (94.3%), with follow-up of 28 (5-65) months, including 1 case (3.0%) of recurrence and 2 cases (6.1%) of death. Conclusions PNENs lack specific clinical symptoms. Preoperative diagnosis rate is improved according to imaging examinations such as color ultrasound, CT, MRI and specific laboratory examinations, and further diagnosis requires postoperative pathological results. Postoperative pathology with high differentiation of tumor more. Surgery is the most important and effective method to treat PNENs, and most patients have good prognosis.
