Abstract

This study describes the development of casting staff in a busy UK General Hospital. Their education and development focused on obtaining a recognised casting qualification alongside continuous support in the work place. National guidelines and standards were used to audit desired changes in practice and patient outcomes. Progress is briefly depicted and further recommendations made. Practice development needs to be continuous and planned, using resources at local and national levels. This study illustrates how perseverance and an interdisciplinary approach have led to changes in practice through staff development. It would be interesting to see audit results at a later date when these changes have had time to take effect.
