Abstract

Infections of the orbital and periorbital soft tissue can be of bacterial or fungal cause and can be categorized as preseptal cellulitis or orbital (postseptal) cellulitis. We conducted this retrospective study to examine the clinical features and prognosis in patients with cancer with preseptal and orbital cellulitis at a comprehensive cancer center. An August 2017 literature search identified no previous publications on orbital cellulitis in patients with cancer, underscoring the importance of the current report. Twelve of 62 patients with a diagnosis of preseptal or orbital cellulitis treated during 2012 to 2016 were excluded for insufficient follow-up data or lack of imaging studies; the rest are the subject of this report. This study was approved by institutional review board and conducted in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
