Abstract

Background: Osteosarcoma (OS), a rare malignancy although most frequent among primary bone tumors, features a high rate of systemic spread and the need for an interdisciplinary treatment approach. Current guidelines for OS curative treatment indicate the need of surgical resection with multimodal chemotherapy including neoadjuvant intervention. However, depending on the site of occurrence, clinical course and outcomes of such treatment demonstrate variable results. Among possible localizations of OS origin, the craniomaxillofacial region is recognized for its distinguishing anatomical and clinical features causing unique challenges in its treatment.
