Abstract

Introduction: with the increasing use of methamphetamine in the United States, there is a growing prevalence of methamphetamine associated cardiomyopathy (MAC), including presentation with heart failure and cardiogenic shock. Clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with MAC presenting with cardiogenic shock have not been previously described. compared to other non-ischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM) patients who presented with cardiogenic shock. Methods: In this retrospective case-control study of 140 patients with NICM admitted to our institution from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2018, we compared 41 patients with MAC to 99 with non-MAC NICM using univariate and multivariate regressions including Cox proportional hazards.
