Abstract

Objective To compare the clinical effects of abscess incision drainage combined with vacuum sealing drainage(VSD) and traditional abscess incision drainage on oral and maxillofacial infection. Methods From 2014 to 2016, 54 patients with oral and maxillofacial infection were enrolled in this study, 29 cases were treated by improved vacuum sealing drainage(VSD, experiment group), another 25 cases were treated by traditional incision drainage(control group). Bacterial culture and drug susceptibility test of fester were carried out in both groups. Effective antibiotics and supporting treatment were applied in all cases. when there was no obvious purulent secretion, drainage tube was removed, and healing time and skin scar was calculated and analyzed. Results Compared with the control group, drainage and wound healing time was significant shorter in experiment group (P=0.038 and P=0.01), and with smaller scar(P<0.01). Conclusions VSD in treatment of oral and maxillofacial space infection can improve the curative efficacy, reduce the postoperative scar, shorten the treatment time, reduce the patient’s pain, and reduce the doctor’s workload as well. Key words: Oral and maxillofacial region; Infection; Vacuum sealing drainage; Traditional drainage; Therapy
