Abstract

Objective To introduce a modified tendon suture technique, ZM method, and to summarize the clinical effects of ZM method with 3-0 Ticron polyester suture for repair of flexor tendon injury and prevention of flexor tendon adhesion by early functional exercise. Methods From June 2011 to October 2016, 33 cases (41 fingers) of flexor tendon injury inⅠ,ⅡandⅢzone were repaired using ZM method with 3-0 Ticron polyester suture. After the operation, the early protection functional exercise was performed under the guidance of doctors to prevent flexor tendon adhesion. Results All the patients were follow-up for 3 to 6 months with an average of 4 months. There was no tendon rupture and re-release operation. The patients were satisfied with the flexion and extension of the affected fingers. According to the total active motion (TAM) standard, the excellent and good rate was 47.2% at the first month, 98.4% at the second month and 100% at the third month after operation. Conclusion ZM method with 3-0 Ticron polyester suture for repair of flexor tendon and early active exercise after surgery can achieve good clinical efficacy. It is a safe and reliable method for repair of flexor tendon rupture. Key words: Tendon injuries; Suture techniques; 3-0 Ticron polyester suture; Early active functional exercise
