Abstract

The occurence of dens evaginatus was investigated by clinical and radiographic methods on 42.177 Japanese individuals. As a result, this anomaly was observed in 53 persons and involved 109 teeth. It has been shown that dens evaginatus has a tendency to develop more frequently in mandibular premolars than in maxillary premolars. Evaginated teeth accompanied by a periapical lesion were detected in 20 teeth (18.3 %). The difference in extension of pulpal horn into the tubercle was also noted. This observation became much more precise when both orthoradial and eccentric projections were employed.
