Abstract
Panosteitis is a disease of the bone marrow of the long bones of the limbs, with a still unknown etiology, which affects young dogs (2-12 months old) belonging to large breeds. It is characterized by unilateral lameness with spontaneous occurrence, without being incriminated a recent trauma, with intermittent and cyclic evolution. Over time, the clinical signs regress spontaneously in the affected limb and appear in the broad limb. The radiographic examination reveals the presence of an endosteal reaction, with areas of increased opacity in the medullary canal of the long bones, with diffuse or well-circumscribed appearance, with focal or multifocal, monoostotic or polyostotic distribution. In some cases, endosteal changes are accompanied by a homogeneous periosteal reaction. Radiographic changes disappear over time, with the bone returning to its original appearance. The treatment is symptomatic.
