Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical and pathological features of liver metastasis of colorectal cancer. Methods The clinical data of 80 patients with pathologically confirmed liver metastasis of colorectal cancer treated in our hospital from March 2003 to November 2007 were retrospectively analyzed. The demographic data, tumor location, pathological stage, tumor differentiation and clinical characteristics in these patients were compared with that of 45 colorectal cancer patients without liver metastasis. Results The median age of the liver metastasis group was 63.36 years, and the eldest patient was 83 years old.The ratio between male and female was 1.58 :1.The median age of the control group was 65.22 years, and the eldest patient was 82 years old.The ratio between male and female was 1.14 :1.There were no significant differences in the age, gender, tumor location, tumor pathological type and tumor differentiation degree the 2 groups. However, there were marked differences in the tumor infiltration degree, tumor type, tumor bulk and the feature of with or without lymph node metastasis between the 2 groups. Conclusions Liver metastasis of colorectal cancer is associated with the course of the tumor development.Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent the liver metastasis of colorectal cancer.
