CLINICAL AND HISTOPATHOLOGIC FEATURES OF PLEOMORPHIC ADENOMA: A CASE REPORT

Abstract

A benign neoplasm classified as a mixed tumor, the histopathologic aspect consists of a dual proliferation and a mixture of cells with myoepithelial and ductal characteristics in a myxoid, mucoid, and chondroid stroma. a 25-year-old male patient attended the clinic of pathology, stomatology, and radiology of the Faculty of Dentistry of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais complaining of increased volume on the right side of the palate with an approximate extension of 50 mm in the region of the maxillary posterior teeth. He did not report painful symptoms and declared that he had always lived with the lesion in his mouth. After diagnostic hypotheses of benign glandular tumor and mucoepidermoid carcinoma, the patient underwent incisional biopsy. Histopathologic examination showed proliferating ovoid cells, arranged in cords, forming ductile structures, and also plasmacytoid cells and areas of squamous metaplasia. The stroma consisted of fibrous, cellular, and vascularized connective tissue. After confirming the diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma, the patient remains under follow-up care. Support: FAPEMIG.
