Abstract

The salivary gland pleomorphic adenoma is the most common salivary gland tumor; however, little is known about its epidemiology. When the minor salivary glands are affected, it generally occurs at the junction of the hard and soft palates. The diagnosis is achieved with histological examination. It is believed to originate in a mixture of ductal and myoepithelial elements permeated by a mesenchymal background. The indicated treatment for the lesion is surgical excision. The prognosis is favorable; however, there is a risk of malignant transformation. The present study aimed to report a case of pleomorphic adenoma with a manifestation in the hard palate. A 34-year-old woman presented with a firm sessile-based nodule of approximately 3 cm located on the hard palate, with a 2-year evolution. After fine needle aspiration and incisional biopsy, a diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma was confirmed. The patient was referred for surgical removal and rehabilitation.
