Abstract

Objective To investigate the operative characteristics, timing of surgery, surgery safety, feasibility and therapeutic effect in spontaneous acute angle-closure glaucoma hyphema. Methods Retrospective analyzed 13 patients (13 eyes) of acute angle-closure glaucoma with spontaneous hyphema whom received trabeculectomy on visual acuity, intraocular pressure, bleb, hyphema, surgical complications and surgical success rate assessment before and after surgery. Results Thirteen patients (13eyes) had successful surgery, no serious complications occurred, pre-operative visual acuity with visual function were improved in varying degrees. Conclusions Surgical treatment of spontaneous hyphema in acute angle-closure glaucoma not only can shorten the course and reduce complications, but is safe and effective. Trabeculectomy should be actively performed in order to avoid further damage to visual function. Key words: Angle-closure glaucoma; Spontaneous hyphema; Trabeculectomy; Effect
