Objective To investigate the relationship between clinical usage of drugs and severe drug eruption. Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out on the clinical data of all inpatients suffered with severe drug eruption admitted into our hospital during the ten years from Jan 2000 to Dec 2009.Results Severe drug eruptions are most often caused by antibiotics、nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs)、anti-epileptic drugs and allopurinol. The severe drug eruption caused by antibiotics、NSAIDs had favourable prognosis, while that caused by carhamazeping and allopurinol had longer latent period and bad prognosis.Canclusion It is important to give sufficient glucocorticoid earlier in the treatment of severe drug eruption, which may be helpful to control the disease and lower mortality rate.
