Abstract
Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of pseudohypoparathyroidism. Methods The clinical characteristics of 35 cases of pseudohypoparathyroidism(PHP)were retrospectively analyzed. Results The disease course of the 35 patients ranged from 10 hours to 21 years. Tetany or epilepsy-like symptoms were found in all patients, 43% of the patients were misdiagnosed on initial diagnosis. Laboratory tests showed low blood calcium, high blood phosphorus and parathyroid hormone levels, including the presence of elevated blood alkaline phosphatase in 18 cases, with low potassium and/or hypomagnesemia in 12 cases, thyroid dysfunction in 7 cases. The 32 cases of brain CT suggested intracranial calcification. Conclusions PHP has high rate of misdiagnosis in initial diagnosis. Examinations of blood calcium, phosphorus, PTH and brain CT should be given as soon as possible.Long-term treatment of calcium and vitamin D supplementation is suggested for the treatment, the appropriate treatment should also be given if combined with low potassium, hypomagnesemia, thyroid dysfunction, etc. Key words: Pseudohypoparathyroidism; Misdiagnosis; Clinical analysis
