Abstract

The watershed basin of the Chalpi Grande River is located in the Ecuadorian Amazon. This basin has an elevation of over 3200 meters and features the Andean and Amazon ecosystems. Its protection is crucial as the raw water supply of 2.2 m/s in the Quito metropolitan area relies on this river. The purpose of this study is to describe the 31-year (1985-2015) climate variability of temperature, precipitation and flow records of the Chalpi grande River based on the historical records of INAMHI, EPMAPS and FONAG. These records are systematized and filled out based on statistical methods and remote sensors to verify the data. Climate variability has increased in both winter and summer behavior and trends. And climate parameter trends may be affected by atmospheric phenomena, such as potential climate change issues.
