Abstract

Within the EU-COST network Euroberry 863 an experiment has been initiated to evaluate the effects of pre-harvest growing conditions within Europe on fruit quality and especially on bioactive components. For 'Elsanta' fruits, content of total phenol, ascorbic acid, titratable acidity and TEAC value was highest at Copenhagen (55°N), where temperatures and irradiation were higher during fruit development than at Geisenheim (49°N). 'Korona' fruits showed only higher values for TEAC and titratable acidity at Copenhagen while the content of ascorbic acid was highest at Geisenheim. Climatic conditions of different intervals prior to sampling date influenced formation and accumulation of internal quality parameters of both cultivars in a different way.
