Abstract

V ARIOUS factors affecting the breeding activities of amphibians, particularly of ambystomid salamanders, have received much attention during the past 50 years. The present study was made to determine the climatic factors influencing the appearance of Ambystoma maculatum in breeding ponds near Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania. It has become impossible to continue the observations, but the results of the study, although incomplete, are herewith made available. Thanks are extended to Messrs. Elwood Manning, Paul Jensen, Edward Hill and Samuel C. Gundy for providing data from their personal notes, and to the U. S.
