Abstract
More than 58% of the total area of the island of Taiwan is covered by forests, so that forest management strategies and related policy making are not only fundamental but also important work for this country. The establishment of a meteorological and hydrologic database is essential for forestry research and watershed management. Taiwan Forestry Research Institute (TFRI) maintains 12 meteorological stations at present; some stations have more than 30 years of continuous records and are considered to be very valuable information for forestry and biodiversity studies. The historical records of TFRI's meteorological stations are analyzed in this report for interpreting climatic conditions. The meteorological characteristics for each station of TFRI including rainfall amount, air temperature, relative humidity, evaporation amount, solar radiation, absolute daily rainfall, and air temperature records, etc. for each month were tabulated. Hopefully these statistics can provide basic information for forest management in Taiwan.
