Abstract

Almost all countries worldwide are impacted by climate change driven events such as heat waves, droughts, sandstorms and flooding. Being one of the most impacted sector, the agriculture industry needs to develop strategies to adapt to climate change. In semi-arid and arid areas, these strategies should primarily be directed toward small scale growers who are less resilient and more vulnerable. This paper provides climate change adaptation options for maize growers in the Adamawa Region of Cameroon. These options may also suit other arid and semi-arid regions of Africa where small scale farmers predominate. Applying them may result in lesser impacts of adverse climatic events on local populations.
