Abstract

This study aims to verify the association between dengue cases and meteorological variables of temperature, air humidity and precipitation, in São Luís municipality (Maranhão State) from 2013 to 2017 and to calculate the relative risk of these variables for dengue. We obtained monthly mean air temperature (Cº), relative humidity (%), rainfall (mm), and the total of reported and confirmed dengue cases data. To estimates the association between the variables we applied a generalized linear model with negative binomial distribution. The results show that mean air temperature, mean relative humidity and total precipitation monthly was statistically significant associated with dengue cases at the level of 0,01, while season variable was not significant. The mean air temperature had the highest relative risk for the dengue cases occurrence. The results indicate that climatic factors can contribute to a higher risk of dengue cases in São Luís. This study can support the development of planning and measures to prevent the disease.
