Abstract

Socialization is important throughout the life span. It provides a mode for enhancing a person's quality of life. This is demonstrated in a case study of a frail elder couple who, through use of a self-focused intervention, was able to develop and implement change in their socialization pattern. This study examined the literature, conceptualized and implemented a nursing intervention to enhance client participation, and evaluated outcomes within a case study framework. Results suggested a difference in gender socialization patterns, the importance of family involvement, and that the use of a focused nursing intervention may be effective in enhancing the lives of frail elders.
