Abstract

Postemergence herbicide, 25% Clethodim EC, was applied to grasses of three-to-six-leaf stage in peanuts (Arachis hypogaea L.). There was no herbicide damage found in peanut. Clethodim at 0.8 and 1.0 l/ha (each diluted to 600 l/ha) provided excellent grass weed control. This herbicide was significantly and effectively controlled goose grass (Eleusine indica Gaertn), Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon Pers.), Niwahokori grass (Eragrostis Niwahokori Honda), Inu-mehisiba (Digitaria microbachne Presl. Henr.) and barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-galli Beauv. var. formosensis ohwi.). Clethodim were not effective in broad leaf weed control. Peanut leaves and stems were not affected and yields of peanut were usually higher by applying Clethodim at 0.8 l/ha.Based on trials of Tainan, Taichung, and Hualien District Agricultural Improvement Station, we recommend the use of 25% Clethodim, at 0.8 l/ha and diluted with 600 l/ha of water, for effective and economic grass control.
